The march, initiated by
NRK journalist
Noman Mubashir, came largely in
response to the recent killing of Dutch
filmmaker Theo van Gogh by a Muslim
extremist.
|
Prime Minister Kjell Magne
Bondevik
was among those who addressed a crowd.
Many other Norwegian politicians were there:
E. Solberg (left), from the Conservative
Party and K.Halvorsen from Socialist Party.
|
The march started at the
square
in front of Oslo's central train station
at 4:30pm, and proceeded up Karl Johans
Gate to the Parliament.
|
|
March organizers were
hoping for a big
turnout, bur only about 200 participated.
Many of them were non-Muslims. Muslim
leaders who refused to take part said they
"of course" oppose violence...bla-bla-bla...
|
Save the Children
demonstrated creatively at
the same time against Norwegian export of
weapon. (Norway is among 11 biggest
exporters of weapon in the world!)
|
Demonstration finished
after Prime
Ministers speech in front of the
Parliament. He was disappointed that only
a few hundred people turned out to take part
in this march against religious intolerance.
